Meinklang Time Series
The Meinklang Time Series started last year. They are wines with a new approach-- a way to explore and push boundaries, to express the philosophy of the farm even more.
The project started last year with Nacht and has since grown with the release of Tag, Morgen, and Abend. The labels are all done as part of a collaboration with Copenhagen artist Billy Ward.
We felt so comfortable in this process of creation and freedom that we decided to do a full “day” with the 4 wines Morgen (morning), Tag (day), Abend (evening) and Nacht (night). Not all of these wines are dictated by a variety of grapes, nor by a style of winemaking or even a vintage. They should each represent a specialty, although it could also be a blend of different vintages. (Meinklang)
MORGEN, IN THE MORNING
We have always wanted to make a serious rosé that does not lose its lightness and its pleasure. We chose a beautiful vineyard in Sankt Laurent located near the lake and on poorer soil. We selected very carefully with a small team and macerated the entire grape for a few hours then we pressed it without crushing it. This gives the wine all its structure and punch. After fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine aged for 9 months in concrete eggs.
In alchemy, a triangle in the form on this label represents earth. The resulting shape is not only the sun but also the crest of an egg, born from the earth and stretching towards the cool morning sky. The peach-orange / pink color represents both the color of wine and the glow of the sun rising in the sky.
TAG, DURING THE DAY
A Grüner Veltliner that has been vinified in a very different way. As you know so far we only have one Gruner, in an aromatic and fruity style. By planting this native and beautiful variety over the past 15 years, we only had access to very young vineyards. Now some wineries have come of age to bring out something different!
The day is the time when all the potential energy for growth and progression is used up. In spring and summer, the power of the sun creates a jungle of life that seeks the warm light of the sky. Each rod-like arm on the leaf-shaped figure stretches high to gather the force that comes from above.
ABEND, IN THE EVENING
Let us introduce you to a new episode of the Daytime wines. Abend - stands for Evening. The label has already so much energy and spirituality and so does the wine.
A mixture of Sankt Laurent and Blaufränkisch aged 2 years in concrete eggs. Really herbaceous and meditative.
NACHT, AT NIGHT
The only wine not entirely new in its line since we had already made a small batch of that of last year. The idea is to make a wine that you want to drink late at night when you've tried great wines and don't want to end up with something less good but a bit fresher and more vibrant! We still love the way Pinot grows here and has its own character, so similar to Gruner and we thought it was time to try something with it. This vineyard is over 35 years old. We select and ferment the grapes for 2 weeks (carbonic fermentation). In addition, these will remain for 9 months of aging in concrete eggs.
As early as the Greeks, the egg was considered the ideal form for creation and was related to the golden ratio of Pythagoras. This label and its symbol represent the end of the evening as the energy of a busy day subsides. The egg is now fully developed and ready to settle into the night and dream of all the possibilities for tomorrow.
